No, the Donkey Pop! Movies figure is not considered rare. It is a standard production item from Funko's 2016 release of the Donkey Kong Country movie, and it was widely distributed through major retail channels. While specific variants like Chase figures are rare, the standard SKU 279 is a common collectible that is frequently found in both new and used condition.
The value of the 2016 Donkey Pop! Movies figure (SKU 279) varies significantly based on condition, with unopened factory-sealed boxes typically commanding a premium over loose figures. As a common release from a popular franchise, it generally trades for a modest amount, often ranging from $5 to $15 for a loose figure in good condition, while sealed copies may sell for slightly more. Exact pricing fluctuates with market demand, so checking recent sold listings on platforms like eBay provides the most accurate current valuation.
To authenticate your 2016 Donkey Pop! (SKU 279), verify that the figure stands approximately 3.75 inches tall and features the standard vinyl material with a matte finish. Check the base for the embossed "Funko" logo and ensure the character's proportions, such as the head-to-body ratio and specific facial details, match official reference images for that production year. While there is no unique serial number on standard retail figures, significant deviations in paint application, mold lines, or packaging quality are primary indicators of a counterfeit.

Funko has discontinued the Donkey Kong Pop! Movies figure (SKU 279), so it is no longer in print or available for purchase as new from official retail channels. This item is now considered out of production, and collectors seeking a new copy must rely on the secondary market, where prices and availability fluctuate.
Condition-checking a Donkey Pop! Movie figure involves inspecting the vinyl for surface imperfections such as scratches, scuffs, or paint chips, with particular attention to the head, hands, and base where wear is most common. You should also verify that the figure is securely seated in its original box and that the window is free of cracks or heavy yellowing, as the packaging significantly impacts value. For a formal grade, you would need to submit the item to a third-party authentication service, though most standard Pop! figures are not typically graded by major agencies like PSA unless they are rare variants.
