Common questions about the MMS 253 Groot from Hot Toys (19-Jul-14).
The answers below are provided by contributors and may not be fully accurate. Verify important details before relying on them.
The Hot Toys MMS 253 Groot is not considered a rare collectible. It is a standard production 1/6 scale figure from the Guardians of the Galaxy line that was widely distributed through major retailers and specialty stores in 2014. Because it was a mass-market release, it remains readily available in both new and used condition on the secondary market.
The MMS 253 Groot originally retailed for $199.99. Live secondary-market data isn't indexed yet — check eBay sold listings for current value.
The specific SKU 902220 and UPC 4900000000000 listed for this item are not standard Hot Toys identifiers, as Hot Toys typically uses 12-digit UPCs starting with 06 or 07 and distinct model numbers. The date of July 19, 2014, predates the release of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, making a 2014 production date for a Groot figure historically impossible. Consequently, this item is likely a counterfeit, a mislabeled third-party product, or a data entry error, and you should verify authenticity by checking the packaging for official Hot Toys branding, a valid 12-digit UPC, and a model number consistent with the 2014-2015 Guardians of the Galaxy release window.
The MMS 253 Groot was released in 19-Jul-14 by Hot Toys.
The Hot Toys MMS 253 Groot is no longer in print and is not available to buy new from the manufacturer. As a 2014 release, this figure is considered a discontinued item, meaning any new stock found today would be from remaining retail inventory or third-party sellers.
Grading a Hot Toys MMS 253 Groot involves inspecting the vinyl figure for surface scratches, paint chips, or discoloration, particularly on the head and limbs, while checking the included accessories for wear. You should also examine the packaging for box condition, including any shelf wear, corner crushing, or seal integrity, as these factors significantly impact collectible value. For a formal grade, the figure can be submitted to a third-party grading service like PSA, which will assign a numerical score based on a standardized condition scale.
