Grading a 1/6th scale figure like the Hot Toys MMS 255 Star-Lord is typically done by a professional third-party service such as CGC, which evaluates the figure, its accessories, and the original packaging to assign a numerical score. For a self-inspection, you should check for common defects such as paint transfer, hairline cracks in the plastic, and wear on the fabric costume, while also verifying that the box is free of significant damage, creases, or sticker residue. Since these figures are often sold in sealed boxes, the condition of the packaging is a major factor in its market value, so ensure the box is square and undamaged before purchasing.
