Common questions about the MMS 83 Hellboy from Hot Toys (14-Jan-09).
The answers below are provided by contributors and may not be fully accurate. Verify important details before relying on them.
No, the Hot Toys MMS 83 Hellboy is not considered rare. It was a standard production figure released in 2009 as part of the Hellboy: The Hell in Hell movie line, and it was widely available through retail channels at the time. While older 1/6th scale figures can become harder to find in new condition after more than a decade, this specific model was not a limited edition and remains relatively accessible on the secondary market.
The Hot Toys MMS83 Hellboy figure, released in January 2009, is a vintage collectible whose value fluctuates based on condition and market demand. As a discontinued item, it typically trades on the secondary market, with prices for a complete set in good condition generally ranging from $150 to $300, though exact valuations depend on current listings and the specific state of the figure and accessories.
It is important to clarify that Hot Toys does not manufacture a product with the MPN MMS83, nor did they release a Hellboy figure in January 2009. The "MMS" prefix is typically associated with Mattel's Monster Masters series, which featured a Hellboy figure released around that time, but the specific MPN MMS83 does not correspond to a known, verified Hot Toys SKU. Because the manufacturer and model number in your query are contradictory to established production records, you cannot authenticate this item as a genuine Hot Toys product; I recommend checking the packaging for Mattel branding or consulting a specific Mattel Monster Masters catalog to verify the item's actual origin.

The Hot Toys MMS83 Hellboy figure is no longer in print and is not available for purchase as a new item from the manufacturer. It was released in 2009 and has since been discontinued, meaning collectors must seek out used copies through secondary markets such as online auction sites or specialty toy resellers.
To grade the Hot Toys MMS 83 Hellboy, inspect the figure for common wear points such as paint transfer on the hands and feet, hairline cracks in the plastic, and discoloration on the fabric costume elements. Check the articulation for any looseness or creaking, and verify that the included accessories, such as the sword and alternate hands, are intact and free from damage. If the figure is in its original packaging, assess the box for shelf wear, dents, or fading, as this significantly impacts the collectible value. For a formal grade, you must submit the item to a professional third-party grading service like CGC, which will assign a numerical score based on their specific condition standards.
