Common questions about the Morton Schmidt Pop! Movies from Funko (2015).
The answers below are provided by contributors and may not be fully accurate. Verify important details before relying on them.
The Morton Schmidt Pop! Movies figure is not considered rare. It is a standard production item from Funko's 2015 release of the movie *The Big Short*, and these figures were produced in large quantities. While sealed copies may command a premium over open ones, the item itself is widely available on the secondary market.
Morton Schmidt Pop! Movies #173 is a standard 3.75-inch vinyl figure released by Funko in 2015, and its value is primarily determined by its condition and whether it is sealed in the original box. As a common movie character figure from that era, it typically sells for a modest price on the secondary market, generally ranging from $5 to $15 for a loose figure in good condition. Sealed copies may command a slightly higher premium, but this item is not considered a rare or high-value collectible.
I cannot verify the authenticity of a specific physical item without examining it in person. To authenticate your Funko Pop, you should check for consistent paint application, clean seams, and a properly formatted SKU on the box, while noting that Funko has not officially released a "Morton Schmidt" figure in their standard Movies line. If you are unsure, consider submitting the item to a third-party authentication service for a professional opinion.
The Morton Schmidt Pop! Movies was released in 2015 by Funko.
The Morton Schmidt Pop! Movies figure (SKU 173) is no longer in print and is not available to buy new from Funko. As a 2015 release, it is considered a discontinued item, meaning any new purchases would have to be sourced from the secondary market.
Grading a Funko Pop! figure like the Morton Schmidt (SKU 173) involves a visual inspection of the vinyl for common defects such as paint misalignment, scratches, or molding seams, as well as checking the box for creases, tears, or wear. While third-party grading services like PSA can provide an official condition score, most collectors assess these items informally by comparing them to known good examples. Since this specific SKU is from the 2015 era, you should also verify that the figure is not a later reprint, as original production runs are generally more desirable.
